Course catalogue and learning credit management system.

GMSA are developing a concept to help learners gain formal recognition for learning carried out on short courses in the Manchester area. The project involves the major HE and FE providers, who run courses in modular format. Learners will be able to study any module at any Provider and accrue credits for their learning. They will then be able to cash in the credits for a formal qualification, like a Diploma or even a Degree.

An online system, to be called GMSA Advance, will enable learners to search and apply for modules directly relevant to their careers. They will be able to track the credits they have earned and apply for a formal qualification when they have sufficient.

GMSA were looking for a development agency who could help them think through the complex conceptual issues and visualise this as an intuitive and user-friendly interface. We needed to be able to work without a formal specification, in an iterative development cycle, converging on a final solution. Interactive Solutions were contracted to assist with the concept and interface design; develop a pilot of the system; assist with the user testing and feedback and; develop a specification for migration to a full release in due course.
