E-learning project to capture skills under threat in textiles and engineering.

The STEAM project aims to capture skills under threat in Engineering and Manufacturing in multimedia format. Time earned skills like loom-tuning and mending in the textiles industry are becoming hard to find as people retire, and younger people are less inclined to take up these professions. It is hoped that STEAM will help to bring on new apprentices, by providing an e-learning resource with video and interactive materials.

Five skills were addressed in this European funded pilot project, including blanket production in a vertical woollen mill, fabric finishing, pattern cutting, neon glass bending and engineering measurement techniques.
