Taste of Medicine e-learning resource to promote widening participation in healthcare.

Taste of Medicine screenshot

Taste of Medicine (ToM) started life as a CD-ROM application to encourage 13 to 14 year old pupils to consider healthcare as a career choice. It aims to dispel common myths about medical careers, like “You have to come from a posh family to be a doctor” or “Your parents need to be rich”. The very wide range of professions and huge staffing demand are also described, in an engaging, interactive format, designed to encourage interest from pupils from all social backgrounds.

ToM is now expanding to become a suite of resources which will include

  • Getting Started - an upgraded version of the original widening participation product.
  • Experiencing It - explores how to make the most from your life experiences when applying for healthcare sector courses and jobs.
  • Scrubbing Up - helping you prepare for your medical interview (coming soon).
  • Virtually there - introducing you to the learning styles and methods used in healthcare teaching at University level (coming soon).

Taste of Medicine recently won Gold at the prestigious E-Learning Age Awards in the category "Excellence in the production of learning content – not for profit sector" and the expanded product suite was officially launched at an event at the House of Lords.
