Website to capture course data for the YH Skills Brokerage Service.

The YH Skills Brokerage Service, operated by Business Link, works with businesses in the Yorkshire & Humberside region, to identify learning needs and source training provision for employees. Business Link are developing a ‘Brokerage Platform’ to assist Advisors in this process. In the first instance, Interactive Solutions were asked to evaluate options for developing the Platform and potential sources of course data. Our experience in developing platforms for similar applications in the past was a key factor in our selection for this task.

The project has since moved on to include the specification of a Brokerage Platform, based on a similar system developed for the East Midland Regional Development Agency (the selected starting point). The core data source for the platform will be the National Learning Directory, but this excludes certain fields considered vital to Business Link when selecting courses. These include for example, the total cost per learner, funding sources and availability and Learning Aim information. Interactive Solutions have been contracted to collect this ‘Supplementary Data’ to enhance the NLD and speed up the brokerage process. We developed a website to enable learning providers to input their own data online and are managing a payment scheme to Train to Gain providers to help kick-start the process of data collection.

This is a key strategic development for Yorkshire Forward, which it is hoped will lead to substantial improvements in operating efficiency for Business Link and an improved quality of service to the regions businesses.
