JungleTXT

An educational text messaging project, based around an expedition to the Brazilian rainforest - a project for Knowsley LEA.

JungleTXT was an experimental text messaging project designed to provide an educational out-of-school activity for Knowsley pupils during the summer holiday period. Three teachers from Lancashire agreed to send text message updates during an expedition to a remote part of the Brazilian rainforest in 2001. They could link to a website via a satellite phone to make the broadcasts and answer questions which pupils could text in. The entire service was operated from our web-based SMS Messaging Centre. Interactive Solutions configured the satellite phone connection to link to the Messaging Centre and provided a "UK base-camp" for communications with the explorers.
